School Policies

In order to provide consistent expectations and a positive learning environment for students, please note the following school policies:

CLASSES

• Arrive to class a few minutes early so we can start promptly.

• Please get water, use the restroom, and put on your ghillies before the start of class.

• Let your teacher know at least 24 hours in advance if you will not be able to attend a class. We are unable to offer make-up classes.

• Dancers are strongly encouraged to practice on their own each week between classes.

• Except for emergencies, cell phone usage is not permitted in class.

• No street shoes are allowed in the dance studio. All dancers must have their ghillies on and be ready to go when class begins. Appropriate dance shoes are required - students may not dance in socks.

• Please bring a water bottle. No other food or drinks are allowed in the studio.

• Masking during in-person classes is now optional. Please stay home if your dancer or another family member is sick, has been exposed to COVID-19, or has tested positive for COVID-19. 

DRESS CODE

Please note, this is for classes and rehearsals only. Click here for information about outfits for performances and competitions, as well as tips for purchasing ghillies.

• Ghillies, black ballet slippers, or dance sneakers

• White knee socks

• Non-baggy t-shirt, tank top, or leotard 

• Black dance shorts or black athletic shorts

• Adults only: option to wear leggings instead of shorts + knee socks combo (no bare legs)

• All long hair must be tied back neatly out of the face.

ZOOM & HYBRID CLASSES

• Zoom links will be distributed after we receive tuition. 

• Since all classes have a waiting room in Zoom, make sure your screen name is recognizable.

• Dancers need some kind of webcam setup where the teacher can see you dancing, as well as a reliable high-speed internet connection. 

• To make sure you have enough space to dance, we recommend a 4’ x 4’ area or larger - preferably not carpet, concrete, or anything too slippery. 

REGISTRATION

• All dancers may register at www.alexandriahighlanddance.org/classes/register. 

• Private lessons are offered upon request and instructor availability. We are only able to offer private lessons to current ASHD students who are also enrolled in one of our group classes. Not suitable for primaries or new beginners.

TUITION

• All classes must be prepaid. Tuition is paid by semester. Unfortunately we are unable to offer drop-in classes at this time.

• A 10% family discount is offered when two or more members of the same immediate family register at the same time. Contact us directly for the discount code.

• Refunds are not offered, except in the event of class cancellation at the discretion of ASHD.
